Figure Four

Four waysto think.

Four number puzzles that share one screen and nothing else. In Ladder and Magic Square every board has exactly one answer, reachable by reasoning and never by guessing. Make 24 has as many answers as it has; Roll is the light one.

Ladder

Light bars step evenly.

Five by five, with lit bars laid across it. Fill every cell so each lit bar reads as an evenly spaced run — and so no unlit run of three ever becomes evenly spaced by accident.

The dark cells carry as much weight as the lit ones. No row rule, no column rule, and numbers may repeat as often as they like.

Magic Square

Every line adds up the same.

Every row, every column and both long diagonals reach the same total. The numbers 1 to n² are each used once, and the keypad greys out the ones you have spent.

Running sums sit along the edge of the board and turn green when a line is finished and correct.

Make 24

Four numbers, one answer: 24.

Four cards from 1 to 13. Use each once with +, −, × and ÷ to reach 24. Merging two cards is the bracketing, so there is no bracket key to look for.

Every set of four numbers from 1 to 13 that can reach 24 is in here, across four difficulties. Sixteen of them need a fraction along the way.

Adding first and multiplying last is what makes this (1 + 3) × (2 + 4). Change the order and you change the sum.

Roll

One tap, patterns light up.

The light one, and it asks nothing of you. Tap once, five columns of digits drop into a grid, and every run of three to five that forms a pattern lights up. The patterns are found for you.

Rows and columns only, never diagonals. Overlapping runs all count.
