Reporting a problem. Four things make a report solvable: which puzzle and which difficulty or size, what you did and what happened instead, your device and OS version, and a screenshot if the problem is visible.
If you believe a specific board has no answer — or more than one — a screenshot of that board is the most useful thing you can send. Every board is machine-checked for a single answer before it reaches you, so a genuine counterexample is worth chasing.
My progress disappeared
Progress lives in your device's local storage and nowhere else. There is no account and no server copy, which also means there is no backup we can restore from.
It is cleared by using Reset in Settings, deleting the app, or your device clearing website data for the app. Moving to a new device does not carry it across.
I'm stuck on a board
Every board in Ladder and Magic Square has exactly one answer, and every one can be reached by reasoning alone — you should never need to guess and then backtrack. Each board gives you three hints; a hint fills one correct cell and locks it.
Make 24 and Magic Square can also reveal a full answer. That round then doesn't count towards your record, but nothing else is lost. Ladder deliberately has no reveal — with three hints and no way to lose, the board will wait.
Why won't Check tell me anything?
In Ladder, Check only reports once every cell is filled. That is deliberate: if it graded a half-finished board, you could fill one cell at a time and read the answer off the feedback, which turns a logic puzzle into a search.
If you would rather have live feedback, Settings has a Show conflicts switch. It is off by default for the same reason, but the choice is yours.
What makes Expert harder?
Not a bigger board — Ladder is always five by five. Harder tiers start you with fewer filled cells and need more advanced reasoning to finish. Each board is tested against the previous tier's reasoning before it is used: if the easier techniques alone would crack it, it is thrown away and another is generated.
Make 24 sorts differently again — by how many distinct solutions a set of four numbers has. Expert sets have exactly one.
Is there a dark mode?
No, and it is not an oversight. The boards lean on a ladder of highlight shades to show which cells relate to which. Inverting all of them collapses that ladder and the board becomes hard to read — testers reported losing track of the layout entirely.
Instead there are ten background palettes, all light, each checked for contrast. Settings → palette.
Sound is off, or music won't play
Both have their own switch in Settings. Sound and music are generated as you play rather than played back from files, so a device silent switch or a low media volume will silence them the same way it would any other app audio.
Does it work offline?
It only works offline, in the sense that it never goes online at all. There is no connected mode, no sync and no download after install. See the privacy policy for what that means for your data.
